RACES
INFORMATION
Lithium borrows from multiple real life sources--from books to movies to games--to create our own unique take on some common fantasy races. These races may originate in just the way you would think, or they might have come about in an entirely unexpected way. The point of this open-ended approach is to allow for creative freedom for our players. Only a few things are more concrete to provide consistency, including aging;
All races have lifespans and maturation equal to that of humans in real life.

BEASTKIN
The name given to any being that resembles an anthropomorphic mammal.
Though they come in many different forms, they all share varying degrees of sense and instinctual traits of the animal they are modeled after--wolf beastkin may seek others to call a pack, cat beastkin may thoroughly enjoy batting around small objects, and horse beastkin might spook at sticks on the ground.
Many assume beastkin are more primal or stupid, but they can be just as intelligent and refined as any other race.

BIRDKIN
Similar to beastkin, but specific to anthropomorphic birds.
Though they are too heavy to be capable of flight, birdkin with wings can easily glide vast distances if they launch from a high enough perch. Even so, all birdkin find it easier to both jump and fall without injury. Bird-like legs with talons are extremely common, but some have more human-like legs with only clawed feet.
Often, birdkin are considered of lower intelligence, given their propensity to collect shiny things and squawk when upset. However, they have shown capability of wonderful feats of engineering with their homes being built in trees or cliffs.

BUGKIN
The name given to anthropomorphic insects.
Bugkin come in many forms--mantis, arachnid, beetle--but all have tough carapace in place of skin. The cultures of bugkin are as varied as their forms, with some working more like a hive mind, or a working colony, and some living solitary lives.
Generally, bugkin are much less common to find out among cities. They are often viewed as alien and unnatural, making many of them wary of discrimination.

DWARF
Diggy diggy hole!
Dwarves are short but incredibly stout. They are known as much for their bushy beards as they are for their advanced blacksmithing skills. Some group together in clans deep underground. Others are known for their women being bearded in the same manner as men.
All too aware of their shorter stature, they consider the offer to toss them to heights they cannot reach as an absolutely horrid offense.

ELF
There are many types of elves: those objectively beautiful with high society and complex architecture, those who live in vast cave systems underground with pale skin, even some smaller tanned elves who build villages in harmony with nature.
Regardless of sub-type, all elves have pointed ears as their main defining trait.

GOBLIN
Goblins are small, green-skinned, pointy-eared, beings.
It is a common belief that goblins are thieves and looters. Some may be, but not all. Others are gifted in alchemy, crafting poisons and potions both.
As many goblins inhabit caves and use the cover of night to travel more safely, they all can see in the dark.

GNOME
These little beings are not to be underestimated.
They have incredibly strong backs and an impressive penchant for tinkering. As such, many gnomes become inventors, making contraptions of all kinds for reasons of the same. Some perhaps go too far, thinking only about what they could and not what they should.

These short-statured folk carry a connotation of merriment and community. They have a tendency to live in villages of close-knit populations and endless reasons to break out feasts and ale for celebration.
A hallmark of a halfling is their unending hunger. Breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, and more!

HUMAN
The foundation upon which all beings are built, though they may not descend from them. Humans are considered the standard, or vanilla, race. Their physicality and capabilities are what all others are compared against.
Though lacking what most would consider interesting traits, humans are Jacks of All Trades; They are not specialized and can therefore adapt to any situation. This leads them to settle, colonize, and conquer, anything they see fit.

LIZARDKIN
Despite not being entirely accurate, scientifically speaking, it is accepted to lump all scaled beings under the lizardkin name. Mostly because saying reptilekin isn't as pleasing to the ear.
From snake-like beings with tails in place of legs but upper bodies more human, to anthropomorphic dragon-like beings with wings, there is great diversity to lizardkin. There are rumors of even seeing some that are turtle- or tortoise-like in appearance.

MERFOLK
When the name mermaid is heard, most imagine beautiful women with fish tails. Merman came much later as a term to describe the male version of mermaids. Then, as more diverse underwater beings evolved, it became most effective to simply call them all merfolk.
Now, beings from the classic mermaid to anthropomorphic sharks to those of jellyfish descent, populate the ponds, lakes, and oceans, of the worlds.

ORC
There are few who do not know what an orc is and what they look like. They carry many stereotypes, and are typically proud of all of them.
Large, muscled, green-skinned and dark-haired, orcs are bred and built for battle and labor. They have tusks that jut upward from their bottom jaw, varying in size for each individual. Their ears are pointed, leading some to believe they are descended or elves, though this cannot be proven nor refuted.
With an affinity for tribal life and taming giant boars as mounts, orcs are just as formidable as they appear.

PIXIE
Pixie is but one name for these beings. They are often called fairies or fae, but they tend to push the name pixie as it has a softer and more inviting connotation.
Small, petite, and usually winged with appendages similar to butterfly wings, pixies are quick yet fragile. They are natural tricksters, enjoying bargains that sound wonderful but ultimately only work in their own favor. Some even hold themselves to a cultural standard that lying is strictly forbidden.
Dark myth and troubling legend surround pixies, the veracity of which is obfuscated by the pixies themselves. Intentionally.

MIXEDBLOOD
Any pairing of different races results in a mixedblood. These beings take on traits of both parents in many varying and unique ways. From mostly human with animal ears to clearly beastkin with bird wings, there are an endless number of combinations to be had.
The trade off, however, is that mixedbloods do not have any of the strengths or weaknesses of their parents--only body parts that might give physical abilities, such as being able to see in the dark or glide on wings.
As such, mixedbloods are generally viewed as weak, lower-class, or even outright taboo.
