TRUE NAME RITUAL
INFORMATION
As in our current season's lore, Stilte is a place of aliases... because having someone's true name means that you can perform the True Name Ritual, and name a fate to befall them--and the world's magic will see it done. Such power is both feared and highly sought after, leading to suspicion of every person and every question. The ritual is known to be just as certain in its targets' fates, as it is its casters suffering a cost themselves. Usually less than their target, but no caster is ever free of consequence. Furthermore, each and every ritual leaves a lasting physical identifier on the caster, forever showing whether they have succeeded for failed, and marking them as either idiot or predator.
RULES
-
A Ritual ticket must be opened in #support before anything can happen in game.
-
This is a monitored and staff-engaged event for your character.
-
-
Proof must be provided of in game knowledge of the intended target's true name.
-
The success or failure of a ritual is directly related to the proof you've provided and how you conduct the ritual.
-
-
Every individual character is given a Ritual Cooldown.
-
A character can only perform the ritual once per week.
-
A character can only have the ritual performed against them once per week.
-
If a fate or cost expands beyond one character due to exigent circumstances, then all involved parties will be given the corresponding cooldown.
-
-
The scars given by each ritual will be added to your character's in game name, and are considered to be physically visible unless a mask or helmet is worn.
-
This is one instance of meta-gaming that is allowed--if you see [X] or [V] in a character's name, your character may know those scars would be visible on their face.
-
Multiples of the same scar will simply have a number added to them. i.e. [2X] or [4V]
-
-
Any character that is not told IC or physically present during a ritual may not have knowledge of the ritual.
-
Target characters may absolutely speculate, especially since a black raven will always appear before something happens, but they would have no concrete knowledge.
-
-
The fate and cost of a ritual are non-negotiable. If you choose to perform a ritual, you choose to accept the consequences.
PROCEDURE
-
Travel to an obelisk. Any of the three will do, and all are treated the same.
-
Draw the sacred symbol in a journal, and place it within the terminal.
-
There is only a description of the symbol:
-
Choose a line and suspend a solid bar below,
-
Keep its edges neat, like a quiet breath held still,
-
Let the measure pause, carried by that simple mark.
-
-
-
Say your target's true name aloud three times.
-
Say the fate to befall them three times.
-
Wait in silence.

-
If you have drawn the symbol correctly, stated your target's true name correctly, and chosen a valid fate, a raven will appear before you. This bird will carry your will into the world so that the fate may be done. The cost will then be inflicted upon you, and a permanent scar of a V will appear beneath your right eye.

-
If you have any piece of the ritual incorrect, Stilte will punish you. Furthermore, a permanent scar of an X will appear under your left eye.

-
After three rituals, successful or failed, some invisible marker will be set upon your character so that monsters of the night will hunt you. Be wary.
FATES
To prevent abuse of this ritual, there is a set list of fates that a caster may choose from. Each fate has an associated effect to the target, and cost for the caster. Though the effects are mostly known, the costs will only be revealed when the ritual is performed.

-
Fate of Barrier
-
A random location in/near the target character's house will be blocked from building for 3 days.
-
-
Fate of Blight
-
1/4 of the crop plots belonging to the target character will be destroyed by locusts.
-
-
Fate of Corrosion
-
One random armor or weapon container belonging to the target character will have its contents replaced with rusted variants.
-
-
Fate of Rot
-
One random food container belonging to the target character will have its contents replaced with rotten variants.
-
-
Fate of Sterility
-
Three random breeding creatures belonging to the target character will be spayed/neutered.
-
-
Fate of Straying
-
The target character will be teleported to a random point 3 map tiles away from their current position while out traveling, once.
-
-
Fate of Swarm
-
A pack of five random wild creatures will attack the target at a random time.
-
-
Fate of Transmutation
-
Two of the highest value coins belonging to the target character will be transmuted to half their value in copper.
-

If a fate or cost cannot be applied to a target or caster, there are hidden alternate fates and costs that staff will enact.
